U18 – Lisbon Casuals vs CF Benfica

O jogo acabou 4-2. LC levou a melhor desta vez.
-Vicente Mourão

U15 season overview

Whilst I would like to thank all the players for their efforts this season, it would only be fair to recognise a special vote of thanks and congratulations for 3 players – Sebastian, Rodolfe and Francisco B – the captain, vice-captain and goal keeper respectively, who each played pivotal roles in the team and displayed exceptional skill, tenacity, resilience and acted as great role models for the rest of our young squad – well done!!
Here is a summary of the indoor results and final classification:
The “official” indoor matches have now finished for us, however we will continue to train on Thursday’s at Alvide (7-8.15pm) as well as train “outdoor” at the Estadio Nacional on Saturday mornings (9.30-11.00am) and Mondays at SDR (7-8pm) – in addition, there is also an excellent and fun opportunity to come and play in the “peladinha” at the EN each Wednesday (7.30-8.30pm). We will also be organising friendly “outdoor” matches so please keep an eye open!
If we wish to be serious about making further progress, and improving on this seasons excellent start, then it is essential that all players attend at least two of the above sessions each week – as always, progress is only made by lots of “small steps and hard work” – Mums & Dads your continuing support is, as always, key to helping us achieve this!!!
Final U15 indoor game against CFB  U15, Sunday 14 January
At the beginning of the season we lost 0-11 to CFB. On the return match it was again clearly evident the team has evolved significantly over the season with a much improved result of 0-7 against a team that finished joint winners of the league (we have finished 5th out of 6).
The team took a while to adapt to a totally different game from the day before against CP ladies – this time there was instant and sustained pressure throughout the game (who had two very large players who will not be playing U15 next year!) with significant improvement in the second half when only one goal was scored (and we were unfairly denied a penalty!).

Vets draw against Belenenses

Match : Belenses vs LC VETS

Warm up : Belem arrived early, quite as a surprise, they seemed determined not to lose again to LC. A bit stronger, they were lacking 3 players to make the 11 so LC loaned them 3 Top players, Joe Kodde, Cat Ward and Pedro Berga … 3 young and great players, that would make all the difference. Adding to that Belem also benefited from the presence of Rui Lopes Junior, who currently plays for Casa Pia Seniors.

LC had a moderate team, the usual vets, experienced but where was this game to go? There were no real expectations, just a feeling that LC were not the favorites.

Game : Belem started off brilliantly, in the 5th minute Pedro Batista scored a well placed goal, and it seemed that Belem would walk over LC… Far superior to LC they were in total dominance. Six minutes later came a surprise equalizer by LC’s Zorro, catching everyone by surprise. But in just 7 mins, Belem were 2-1 up, with a poorly given away goal by LC defense. But LC were not to give up.. after a penalty flick well placed by Rui Figueiredo, and a well placed goal by James Harrison out of the blue, LC walked away from the first half leading 3-2.

The second half was a different story. Around 15 mins into the game , Belem scored 3 goals, 2 of which cooly netted by Paulo Lima, who moved from center back to center forward. LC had 5 major chances, which unfortunately were all missed by Zorro, who seemed to be off target… what was his excuse? Guess he didn’t really have one, seemed to be totally unfocused, ran like the wind, was danger man, but poor finalizing. LC saw Jerry Harris come on, who scored and made a difference. But the best goal for LC was the equalizer by Alexa Kodde, who gracefully swooped the ball on the boards, after a great pass from Andy.

Result : 5 – 5

Man of the match : Andrew Baird, who had to leave in the 2nd half.
Worst performer : Zorro, missed 5 clear goals, and who has to go into repentance and further endurance training.

Steve “Zorro” Fernandes
